description: I felt very compelled to show this "Priceless" one of a kind rod to everyone. This is a rod you'll never seen again and because it was sold away from my website in a special consignment transaction I felt as the buyer did, it needed to be shown. When I first came upon the rod and didn't have the rod in my hands, not even a photo I thought the rod might be a ghost, meaning it didn't exist or was the 6'3" 3wt. I can remember my first conversation with Mr. Robert Bolt who holds all the Howells records! His first response was "Nope" "Gary never made a 2wt rod" but he was very persistent and did some digging! Much to our surprise there it was. This was not just another small stream wonderful or as Marty Keane called them "The Little Masterpiece" no this was a special rod with a two fold pedigree! This was Gary personal rod made for himself and the only 6'2" 1-3/4oz fly rod he ever made! It is listed as such on the label "Built for Gary H. Howells" When the rod finally made it's way to my office and in my hands I knew right then it was in fact a very unique piece of fly fishing history! So I hope you enjoy the photo's an a little piece of history. The rod is in "NM" condition with very light soiling to the grip and has been fished but very well cared for. The rods serial number is 4100 and was built in 1975. It was very common for Gary to list these personal rods with alternate serial number in the books. In this case he has it listed as 4100B the B being a marker for personal rods. This was also quite common place for experimental rods but make no mistake Gary said in his own words if a rod was no worthy or didn't cut the mustard he would break the rod over knee and toss it in the trash. I guess you could say it was his way of quality control in trying to obtain perfection! I would like to says many thanks to Mr. Robert K. Bolt for his due diligence in obtaining the providence on this great rod! Can't say much more other than have a look and Enjoy!!!
