description: Another Beautiful built rod by Master rod builder R.W. Summers Model 856 Deluxe, serial number 122390 production date 1990. This rod is a 8ft 5/6wt 2/2. This is the deluxe model with nickel silver fittings and black tipping on the translucent brown wraps. Half well shaped cork, down locking reel seat with beautiful highly figured dark walnut mortised spacer. The rod is in "E" condition. Mr. Summers waiting list is now at 5 to 6 year to get a rod. I'm not even sure if he is taking new rod orders at this time. This is a chance to pick up one of his best sellers with no wait. The rod has been fished with soiling to the grip and at one time a single tip had some damage to it. The owner had what I think is a great idea! He had Mr. Summers remove all the hardware from the slightly damage tip and using this same hardware build a new tip. So when it's all said and done both tips have equal ware and the hardware is from the same era with matching serial numbers. This was smart! What you have is a perfect 856 and you would never know the difference in tips unless I had stated it. Just a classic rod that Mr. Summers styled after the famous Paul H. Young Parabolic 15. Mr. Summers worked for Mr. Young during the 60's. Just like the Para 15 this rod will do it all and has lot's of power for distance but is also a great dry fly rod for casts in the 15 to 35 foot range. So you'll have everything covered now all you'll need is the fish!
