description: Vintage Thompson model 500 Fly Reel circa 1950's made in San Francisco CA and original owned by famous SF Fly Tier Cal Bird. in "E" condition with 99.9% of it's wonderful black enamel finish with metal oval line guard, brass reel foot is untouched! Has very light swirl marks around the crank handle which is very normal for this style of reel. The reel retain all the nice dark black finest. This is one of the nicest Thompson model 500's I have sold and looks to be almost new with the exception of noted very light crank swirl marks. The reels claim to fame is having one of the best drag systems on a US production reel. What a classic reel good for another lifetime! Just a wonderful classic reel for Steelhead to Salmon.
